TECHNOLOGY & HUMAN RIGHTS!

For this reason, Amnesty International advocates for effective supervision on the use of technologies: an algorithm watchdog, a human rights impact assessment, more transparency, and a ban on the use of self-learning algorithms.

“What do our fundamental rights look like in the digital age?

Across the world, hard won rights are being weakened and denied every day increasingly. Human Rights defenders are victims of digital attacks.

Civilian’s rights are being systematically threatened by the surveillance-based business model of companies like Facebook and Google. But also governments are making use of surveillance-based technology and many countries are introducing new laws to increase censorship of the internet.”

AmnesTea x Technology & Human Rights (Racial Algorithms)

“AmnesTea is a safe-space where like-minded people come together and discuss topics that matter to them. Within this edition, which concerned the topic of Human Rights and Technology. We noticed how naïve most of us engage with Technology, without being aware that our rights are being violated. We have discussed how the digital age also has its disadvantages. For example when it comes to racial profiling in algorithms.”
